Biography and Artist's Statement
Studies, Travels, Inspirations and Painting, Painting, Painting !

Sue Becque began her study of art in her native South Texas as a student of Simon Michael, Rockport School of Fine Arts, Rockport, Texas. Later, she received her B.A. degree in graphic design from Texas Woman's University, Denton, Texas. She continued her study of painting and drawing in workshops with Kenneth Loomis, Virginia Cobb and Barbara Nechis. Sue has worked as a graphic artist, winning awards for her designs, and as a teacher of art, kindergarten and special education, incorporating art into her teaching projects. She has had the opportunity to travel and paint different cultures and their people. Now retired from teaching, her love of human nature is reflected in her portrait and figure studies, especially those of young children. She uses graphite, pastel, pen and ink, charcoal or watercolor, sometimes alone or sometimes in combination, to express the beauty and unique quality of each individual. In addition to portraits and figures, Sue feels inspired to paint the beauty of the mountains, washes, and wildlife near her Arizona home. Her work has been honored with numerous awards and commissions and her paintings and drawings hang in collections throughout the United States and Mexico. An active juried member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild, Tucson, Arizona and a member of the Santa Cruz Valley Art Association, Tubac, Arizona. Her work can be seen at the Tubac Center of the Arts, Tubac, Arizona; San Pedro House Gift Shop, Sierra Vista, Arizona; and, of course on this web page which is updated with recent works from time to time. "Figures and portraits have been my favorite subjects throughout my artistic career. I have a fascination for the human form, both visually and emotionally. It is my lifelong goal to express the beauty in each individual - the universality and connectedness of us all."
